Day Trips on the Alabama Gulf Coast

Historic Blakeley State Park:

The exact location of the park is at 34745 State Hwy 225 in the fast growing city of Spanish Fort, AL. The park is the largest National Historic Register site East of the Mississippi River and is home to the last major battle of the Civil War. The 1814 city of Blakeley is now said to be the South's most beautiful ghost town. Located in the park are rolling hills amid gorgeous scenery only found in the deep South. There are several large, well kept picnic areas throughout the park, and camping on the weekends is allowed. Mountain biking and horseback riding are permitted on the main paths which are also very well kept. Overall, this park is a true gem on the Alabama Gulf Coast. They are open daily with a small admission fee. Call ahead to confirm hours of operation, or just ask the ranger at the gate and they will let you know - as well as let you know which areas to not venture into and don't forget the maps at the gate!

The park area is well maintained by the Parks Division and is there for all to enjoy on a hot summer's day. The springs are a cold-water spring and is always refreshing.
